300 Pasteur Drive Renewal Program

Stanford Health Care is modernizing its facility at 300 Pasteur Drive on the Stanford Medicine campus in Palo Alto to offer superior patient care and a seamless environment with the inpatient hospital at 500 Pasteur Drive. This ten-year project will culminate in a state-of-the-art facility, primarily providing oncology services, in 2030.

 

Entrances and Public Spaces

  • The public spaces at 300 Pasteur Drive will undergo modernization with the introduction of new finishes and furnishings (including garden additions). These projects will continue throughout the next ten years.
  • Relocating from its current location on the ground floor, a new atrium space will be created on the first floor. This atrium will provide a comfortable locale for patients, families, and visitors to spend time with or wait for loved ones or to have some respite from the clinical spaces.

Bed Extensions and Development (BED)

  • The BED project includes a complete renovation of the existing D, E, and F patient care units as well as building new extensions between the D and E patient care units and the E and F patient care units.
  • All patient rooms will be converted to private rooms.
  • Specialized beds for cancer care, intensive care, and immunosuppressed patients will be added.

Oncology
Inpatient oncology allows for improved coordination of care and a better overall experience for patients and their families.

Infusion Treatment Area
The current ground floor atrium will be transformed into an outpatient clinical space, with a build-out of a new infusion treatment area.

The infusion treatment area will provide additional capacity to meet the consistently high demand for outpatient infusions.

Psychiatry
The psychiatry unit is designed humanistically to provide access to nature with an outdoor space, homelike environment, and activities that promote wellness behaviors, sleep, exercise, and healthy eating.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

General Medicine

Pediatric Emergency Department

  • As of November 2019, the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments have been split between 500 Pasteur Drive (adult) and 300 Pasteur Drive (pediatric).
  • Reconfiguration of the Pediatric ED space is designed to ensure patient care best practices, increase patient safety, reduce wait times, and improve patient flow.
  • The Pediatric ED remains open throughout reconstruction, providing continuous specialized pediatric emergency care.
  • The Pediatric ED will be available to patients ranging in age from birth to 20 years.

Upgrades to the Interventional Platform

  • The interventional platform brings together multiple specialties—cardiology, gastroenterology, surgery, radiology, and pulmonology—into one common area. The space is further integrated with a centralized pre-op area and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Twenty-one operating rooms will be modernized to include replacement finishes that reflect new standards and technology upgrades such as equipment booms and video technology.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Expansion and Reconstruction
The existing Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) will be modernized and expanded in two major phases with the addition of new registration and waiting areas and enhanced infrastructure and technology.

Technology

  • New software will enable workflows in each clinical location.
  • MyHealth and associated patient room technologies will allow for entertainment, patient education, results, messaging with clinicians, and telehealth.
  • The technology infrastructure will be upgraded to include a Cisco network, Wi-Fi, 5G cellular coverage, and emergency/hospital radio coverage.
