A PART OF PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE
Program Overview
In 2022, the Office of Research, Patient Care Services, Health Equity Research Division at Stanford Health Care announced a new funding opportunity for innovative research projects that sought to improve equity in: (1) clinical research, (2) health care delivery, (3) clinical practice, and (4) workforce initiatives. The opportunity provided funding to Stanford Health Care employees for projects designed to address health equity and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We are not funding projects for 2023. Thank you for continuing to advance health equity at Stanford Health Care and across the Stanford enterprise to benefit our patients and community partners.
Stanford Health Care is committed to achieving health equity and workforce diversity, equity and inclusion. We strive for our patients, communities, and our diverse workforce to have equity in reaching their full health potential. Furthermore, our mission to address health care disparities is driven by our Stanford Health Care Strategic and Operational Plans, Nursing and Patient Care Services Strategy, and our Stanford Medicine Integrated Strategic Plan.
Project Aims:
- Increase diversity, equity, and inclusion among clinical research participants.
- Identify potential risks for bias at any stage in the clinical research process from formulating research questions, proposal formulation, recruiting participants, and gaining patient consent through to administering clinical research interventions.
- Identify and develop programs and systems to eliminate bias and inequities in care delivery and clinical practice (based on race, gender/sex, ability, income, geographic region, or zip code, etc.).
- Develop a guide for creating and maintaining partnerships with community-based health care organizations that serve diverse and communities of color, drawing from health equity frameworks and networks.
- Empower Stanford Health Care Employees and Groups, such as Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Shared Leadership Council (SLC), Interprofessional teams, unit and department-based ERGs, and their members, among others, to be change agents on behalf of Stanford Health Care to: identify, propose, design, and implement innovative ideas to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion as an ongoing standard across Stanford Health Care
