Experience the Future
of Health Care
As medicine becomes increasingly complex, Stanford Health Care consciously built human touches throughout its new facility.
Three hundred and sixty-eight patient rooms offer peace and quiet to enhance healing. In-room technology guides recovery. An advanced interventional platform combines surgical, procedural and imaging technologies to improve the precision of medical care. A dedicated wellness center provides a quiet space for solace, and support services for caregivers and families. Four acres of gardens bring the calming nature of outdoor spaces to patients and visitors. Beautiful and inspiring works of art soothe the mind and promote the healing process.
All are part of the reimagined healing environment that is the new Stanford Hospital.
Four floors of patient rooms rise above the public and procedural spaces below. Within these calm corridors, the real work of healing takes place.
Patient-centered technology
In-room digital tools transform the patient experience and support the healing journey. Patients can control lighting, temperature and window coverings, choose entertainment options to view on the 55-inch television and order meals, all from the tablet at their bedside. Patients can also order in-room healing services like massage, art therapy or music therapy with ease.
MyHealth
The newly updated MyHealth app puts comprehensive health care management at patients’ fingertips, seamlessly supporting patients from outpatient health maintenance to inpatient hospital stay. The app automatically switches to Hospital View when patients are admitted, allowing them easy access to important information such as their medications, test results and care team, and helping them meet mobility and pain goals and track their progresses toward discharge.
At the center of the new Stanford Hospital lies an oasis, a floor dedicated to providing support and comfort to the true heroes of healing—patients, families and caregivers.
Family and Caregiver Support
The Family Resource Center provides compassionate support to caregivers and connects them with support networks and community resources. The Stanford Health Library offers complimentary medical research to facilitate a deeper understanding of diagnoses and available treatment options. The interfaith chapel and rooftop gardens create a welcome sanctuary, a place to pause and take a break from the clinical setting of the inpatient rooms above and the demands of the outside world beyond the hospital entrance.
Art of Healing
The new Stanford Hospital places equal value on the healing qualities of art and nature. Captivating murals and large-scale art pieces displayed throughout the hospital inspire healing and hope. Four acres of gardens surround the new hospital, providing patients, visitors and staff with access to natural settings, light and open space, all proven to help promote health and well-being. Integrating art and gardens into the hospital environment brings a holistic approach to healing the mind, body and spirit.
The most advanced surgical technologies combine with intra-operative imaging to improve patient outcomes.
The second floor of the new Stanford Hospital is home to the interventional platform — three acres of integrated surgical, procedural and imaging space, built with the most advanced technologies available today and the flexibility to add the innovations of tomorrow. The interventional platform brings together 20 operating rooms (ORs), 2 hybrid ORs, 8 interventional, radiology and image-guidance rooms, 3 MRIs, 3 CTs and 1 intra-operative MRI.
The ability to image patients during surgery is one of the most anticipated capabilities of the new hybrid ORs. An intra-operative MRI located within the sterile surgical field allows physicians to see real-time images during complex, multi-step procedures for immediate attention, reducing the need for follow-up surgeries.
The interventional platform brings together multiple surgical and procedural specialists —cardiologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists and pulmonologists — into one common area. The space is further integrated with a centralized pre-operative and post-operative prep and recovery that allows for coordinated patient care throughout the surgical process.
“The benefits of integration allow Stanford to provide the most innovative care in the most efficient way. By using intra-operative MRI in our two hybrid ORs, the need for patients to have additional procedures is reduced with the most optimal outcomes.”

Doubled in size, the new Stanford Emergency Department improves access to everyday emergency care and mass-casualty disasters.
More than two-and-a-half times larger than the current space, the new Emergency Department serves adults and trauma patients in patient bays, with imaging next door for expediency. Larger patient treatment areas provide space for families. In-room web conferencing brings loved ones who are out of the area into the room for comfort and decision-making.
As the only Level-1 Trauma Center between San Francisco and San Jose, the new Stanford Hospital is built to withstand the strongest earthquake and designed for readiness in the event of disaster. The parking structure connected to the Emergency Department converts to a triage and treatment center in the event of a large-scale emergency. The area is sheltered from the elements and stocked with essential emergency supplies.
To enhance capacity to care for more patients, Stanford has divided its emergency services between its two hospitals. The new Stanford Hospital’s Emergency Department will serve adult and trauma patients, while pediatric patients will be cared for in a redesigned pediatric emergency department at the existing Stanford Hospital.
