What Does an Outpatient RD Visit Entail?
Registered Dietitians (RDs) use evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines to educate and counsel patients on behavioral and lifestyle changes required to impact long-term eating habits and health. RDs practice a patient-centered approach and provide MNT as it relates to their medical condition and individual nutrition needs. A nutritional visit may include:
- A full nutritional evaluation
- A nutrition plan of care based on symptoms and diagnosis
- Education and counseling for lifestyle and behavior change
- Resources and materials related to condition specific nutrition guidelines
- Strategies to help counteract personal nutritional issues

The Stanford Department of Clinical Nutrition staffs registered dietitians to provide medical nutrition therapy for adult ambulatory care patients. Simply ask your doctor to complete a referral to a dietitian.
