Outpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation Program
The Outpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation Program at Stanford Health Care provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology services. Our therapists have extensive experience and expertise in working exclusively with patients who have neurological impairments.

Our Expertise
The Outpatient Neurologic Rehabilitation Program offers the latest treatment options for occupational, physical, and speech therapy, using leading-edge equipment and evidence-based treatment techniques.
Some of the amenities available include:
- Open, gym space with natural light and comfortable surroundings
- Private treatment rooms
- Outdoor spaces to practice mobility skills on varied terrains
- Leading-edge equipment for body weight support, standing and walking, balance and vestibular rehabilitation, and return to driving
- Specialty equipment for strengthening, balance, standing and gait training, visual-perceptual testing and training, and speech and voice therapies
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapists provide evaluations and treatments to improve function in daily life activities. Treatment focuses on:
- Activities of daily living (ADLs), including dysphagia/self-feeding
- Upper extremity function and neuromuscular re-education
- Spasticity management
- Equipment prescription (splinting, FES, wheelchairs, and adaptive equipment)
- Energy conservation/work simplification
- Driving simulation training
- Visual-perceptual and functional cognitive screening/training
Physical therapy
Physical therapists provide evaluations and treatments to improve strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and mobility skills. Treatment focuses on:
- Functional mobility training and therapeutic exercise
- Gait and balance training
- Vestibular and concussion rehabilitation
- Lower extremity function and neuromuscular re-education
- Spasticity management
- Robotic-assisted strengthening
- Equipment prescription (ambulation devices, orthoses and FES)
Speech-language pathology
Speech-language pathologists provide evaluations and treatments to improve communication, cognition, and swallowing. Treatment focuses on:
- Speech and language retraining, including voice therapy (LSVT)
- Cognitive retraining
- Communication retraining for aphasia, dysarthria and dysphonia
- Swallow/dysphagia evaluation and treatment
- Instrumental swallow assessments (video fluoroscopy)
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
For Patients
For your convenience, you may check in for all same-day appointments at the Stanford Neuroscience Health Center through a centralized, check-in desk near the front lobby. In addition to all outpatient services, you also can access onsite pre-surgery consultations at the center.

- Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your evaluation appointment
- Bring your insurance card and photo identification
- Bring your insurance authorization letter (if required)
