Our focus programs
The Respiratory Care Services (RCS) and Pulmonary Function Laboratory (PFL) teams at Stanford Healthcare (SHC) provide the highest quality, evidence-supported, protocolized care coupled with world-class customer service. Our frontline caregivers provide a wide range of services including mechanical ventilation, pulmonary function testing, advanced bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonary procedures, and other respiratory support measures for some of the nation’s most critically ill patients.
At SHC, we are dedicated to achieving optimal patient outcomes and cultivating innovation through collaboration with our interprofessional colleagues. We frequently partner with our nursing and physician partners in developing new care pathways that positively impact patient experience. Through multidisciplinary teamwork, we have succeeded in reducing the rate of pressure ulcerations associated with respiratory devices. Similarly, we were able to reduce the time a patient spends in isolation while undergoing testing for tuberculosis. Members of our team participate in cutting edge research projects involving novel medications, technological innovations, or refinement of patient care pathways.
The RCS department at SHC values individual growth and professional development. We offer a career ladder that allows each caregiver to grow at his/her own pace. All staff enter as an RCP I and focus on learning SHC culture, systems, and providing general medical care. From there, one can begin training in our critical care units (RCP II). To climb to higher levels, our staff choose to train in a specialty care area. At present, we offer four specialty tracts: outpatient clinics, pediatric and adult emergency care, interventional pulmonology, and leadership. You can seek promotion to each level after completing all competencies, participating in a quality project, and overseeing some type of critical care education.
