Interpreter Services
Interpreter Services
Interpreter Services provides free medical interpretation and translation between physicians and patients. The department includes in person interpreters, videoconference, and telephone interpreters who support all of Stanford Health Care.
Stanford medical interpreters are required to adhere to professional standards, including interpreting everything said, protecting the patient's right to self-determination, confidentiality, and quality care.
In Person at the hospital
- Spanish interpreters are available at the Hospital and in the Emergency Department 24/7.
- American Sign Language (ASL), Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, and Vietnamese interpreters are available Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Interpreters for additional spoken languages can be accessed Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm when pre-scheduled 24 hours in advance.
Video Conference
Video conference calls are accessible from clinic exam room computers or iPads connecting patients with American Sign Language (ASL) Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, and Vietnamese medical interpreters Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Telephone
Telephone medical interpreters for over 200 spoken languages are accessible 24/7 in the hospital and clinics.
